The von Karman Institute (VKI) is a non-profit international educational and scientific organisation, specialising in fluid dynamics and hosting three departments (aeronautics & aerospace, environmental & applied fluid dynamics, and turbomachinery & propulsion). It provides post-graduate education in fluid dynamics (research master in fluid dynamics, doctoral program, short training program and lecture series) and encourages "training in research through research". VKI performs experimental research as well as computational and simulation aspects of gas and liquid flows.
VKI's unique expertise and scientific infrastructure (large range of facilities, some world-unique) is aimed and focused at studying and solving complex fluid dynamics problems in the following fields: Liquid Metals & Industrials Flows; Thermal management and process safety; Aeroacoustics; Wind Energy & Environmental Flows; Machine Learning for Fluid Systems; Propellant Management; Aeronautics and Low-Speed Aerodynamics; Aerothermodynamics and Heat Transfer; Aerothermochemistry and Heat Transfer; Rarefied and Plasma Flows; Hypersonic Propulsion; Turbine Aerodynamics and Heat Transfer; Compressor Aerodynamics and Heat Transfer; Shape Optimization.
