There are 6 Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CCI) in Flanders. All are private institutions and consequently membership is not compulsory. Together with the Flemish Employers Association, these 6 Chambers form the Voka alliance (politically independent) which unites more than 18,000 businesses from all sectors within the Flemish region. This alliance represents the largest Flemish network of enterprises, 65% of the private employment and 66% of the added value produced in Flanders and Brussels. Voka supports the economic development of this region by lobbying, networking and offering tailor-made services to small, medium and large businesses. Voka is also part of the global network of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the oldest and largest business network worldwide. The regional Voka – Chamber of Commerce & Industry Mechelen-Kempen employs over 50 people and serves over 2800 companies from various industries and sizes in the district of Mechelen and Turnhout. We are private by law and politically independent. The main business sectors that stress the economic importance of this region are: health & care (we have the European production plants of Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, Novartis and other significant companies in our region), life sciences, bio based applications, process technology, logistics (one of the biggest logistic hubs of Western Europe), ICT & media, B2B service sector, construction, food & beverages - agro-food (Mechelen has Europe’s largest co-operative auction of fresh vegetables, fruits & bio – halal certified). We export about 40 billion, which accounts for 14% of total Belgian exports. The mission of our regional Chamber is stimulating economic activity and contributing to a better entrepreneurial climate. |
