THAMEUS

THAMEUS is a spin-off of the CHU de Liège created in April 2024. It develops and commercializes the Baby Detect test for newborn screening of rare and treatable diseases: www.babydetect.be. 

Newborns identified with a rare disease through Baby Detect can receive care from birth, before the disease causes damage that may sometimes be irreversible. In addition, the test helps avoid the diagnostic odyssey that is common in rare diseases, which takes on average five years and seven different medical consultations before the correct diagnosis is made. 

This test, developed at the CHU de Liège, has been validated through a clinical study involving nearly 7,000 newborns, which led to numerous international publications, including in the prestigious journal Nature Medicine. THAMEUS has been commercializing the Baby Detect test since early 2025 and is rapidly expanding, with close to 50 maternity units already having performed tests at the request of parents. THAMEUS is now preparing its international expansion.
