Abidjan is the largest city and the chief port of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire located in the continent of Africa. Since 1983, Yamoussoukro is the official capital of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, but Abidjan holds its position as the most important commercial and banking centre in the country. With about 4,5 million inhabitants, Abidjan is one of the best developped cities of the country. It lies on the south-east coast of the country, on the Gulf of Guinea and is located on the Ebrié Lagoon. The business district, Le Plateau, is the center of the city, along with Cocody, Deux Plateaux (the city's hub for diplomats). Eventhough Abidjan might still recover from the post electoral crisis in 2011, the city is an economical, political and cultural center that shines again. It is home to the African Development Bank and the International Cocoa Organisation. In July 2017, Abidjan hosted the "Jeux de la Francophonie" and in November the European Union-Africa Summit.
